Suppression of Leidenfrost effect on superhydrophobic surfaces

چکیده
The Leidenfrost phenomenon entails the levitation of a liquid droplet over superheated surface, cushioned by its vapor layer. This layer can obstruct boiling heat transfer in exchangers, thereby compromising energy efficiency and safety. For water, superhydrophobic surfaces are believed to reduce point (TL)—the temperature at which this occurs. Therefore, not commonly utilized thermal machinery despite their benefits such as reducing frictional drag. Here, we demonstrate that it is possible achieve superhydrophobicity without lowering TL surface engineering fine-tuning liquid–solid adhesion. We water on comprising doubly reentrant pillars (DRPs) exceed hydrophilic even superhydrophilic surfaces. Via theory computation, disentangle contributions microtexture, transfer, chemistry onset phenomenon. Remarkably, coating-free DRP architecture facilitate ?300% greater droplets 200 °C comparison with conventional These findings advance our understanding herald technological applications machinery.

Scale effect on dropwise condensation on superhydrophobic surfaces.
Micro/nano (two-tier) structures are often employed to achieve superhydrophobicity. In condensation, utilizing such a surface is not necessarily advantageous because the macroscopically observed Cassie droplets are usually in fact partial Wenzel in condensation. The increase in contact angle through introducing microstructures on such two-tier roughened surfaces may result in an increase in dro...

Engineering surfaces that promote rapid drop detachment1,2 is of importance to a wide range of applications including anti-icing3-5, dropwise condensation6, and self-cleaning7-9. Here we show how superhydrophobic surfaces patterned with lattices of submillimetre-scale posts decorated with nano-textures can generate a counter-intuitive bouncing regime: drops spread on impact and then leave the s...

Superhydrophobic surfaces were fabricated by the complex coating of silica nanoparticles with functional groups onto cotton textiles to generate a dual-size surface roughness, followed by hydrophobization with stearic acid, 1H, 1H, 2H, 2H-perfluorodecyltrichlorosilane or their combination. The wettability and morphology of the as-fabricated surfaces were investigated by contact angle measuremen...
